After 5 to 7 months since the definitive plantation of the plant it is applied the “Fumes” method.
This traditional method of cultivation consists on placing metal barrels, filled with organic materials, such as wood chips, dried banana leaves, dried herbs, and cryptomeria branches, throughout the central path of the greenhouse and burning them. The plant, due to the high levels of ethylene and all the intoxicating environment, ends up blossoming.
This method of “Fumigation” was discovered by chance in 1872 and it is the only technique used to assure a planned and uniform crop of pineapples.
